Wendy Werner and Ali Al Janabi Take Helm in Oman’s Development Push
Summary
Wendy Werner and Ali Al Janabi appointed to lead World Bank and Shell in Oman, signaling a strategic push for sustainable growth and energy reform.
In a dramatic leadership shake-up, two of Oman's largest institutions have declared new leaders to lead their businesses in the country. The World Bank Group has appointed Wendy Werner as its very first Country Manager in Oman, and Shell has welcomed Ali Al Janabi as its new Country Chairman.
Wendy Werner brings over twenty years of experience in emerging markets, having previously led the International Finance Corporation (IFC) India and Maldives. Werner's selection is in line with the opening of the World Bank Group's new office in Muscat, as part of Oman's Vision 2040. Werner aims to deepen collaboration with public and private sectors by focusing on economic resilience, sustainable SME finance, and private sector development.
Meanwhile, Shell named Ali Al Janabi Senior Vice President and Oman Country Chairman from July 1, 2025. Al Janabi, with 29 years of global experience, including 22 years at Shell, has held leadership roles in the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. He succeeds Walid Hadi and is expected to guide Shell's strategic vision in Oman towards gas development, emissions management, and energy diversification.
These appointments identify Oman's growing importance in foreign development and energy policy. Both of the leaders should play pivotal roles in pursuing sustainable development and economic revival in the Sultanate.
