Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed that he will be attending the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, at the end of this month after being invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. While posting on X, Modi stated that he "congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month."

In Ottawa, Mark Carney emphasized India's significance as the world's fifth-largest economy and most populous country. He pointed out that because India sits at the center of a number of global supply chains, its inclusion is paramount when one speaks of security, energy, digital futures, critical minerals and emerging-market infrastructure.

The invite and the welcome are against the background of efforts to mend relations strained by Canadian accusations of Indian involvement in the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The two countries have agreed to resume law enforcement talks and work together on accountability issues.

The G7 – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union – will gather later this month to address key current global priorities, ranging from energy security to digital governance.
